The Salt Mine at Wieliczka is one of Europe’s oldest functioning underground facilities. During the tour through the Mine, You will see underground chambers hewn out in the salt rock, statues sculpted in salt and saline lakes. You will visit one of the oldest working Salt Mines in the World – the Wieliczka’s Salt Mine, which has been producing table salt for over 700 years!
The mine attracts thousands of visitors each year. Not only is it one of Poland’s greatest attractions, it’s also listed on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites. The tourist path starts with a descend down 378 steps to access the 64 m level. The entire tour is about 3 km in length and features many corridors, 20 chambers and countless salt statues, reaching in the deepest point a level of 135 metres. One of the biggest and most beautiful chambers is the Saint Kinga’s Chapel (known for wedding ceremonies and other formal celebrations such as New Years Eve galas).
It is a great idea to visit Salt Mine in Wieliczka no matter how young or old you are. Both children and adults admire this place, so you have to put it on your sightseeing list while in Cracow.
